Tequila Cocina is committed to making both our website and our restaurant welcoming
and usable for people of all abilities. This statement explains what we do today,
where we know we still fall short, and how to tell us when something does not work
for you.
1. Our standard
We target conformance with the
Web Content
Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We treat this as a moving target
rather than a one-time checklist, and we audit the site at least once a year.
2. What we do today
- Semantic HTML structure with proper headings, landmarks, and labels.
- Keyboard navigation throughout the site, including the chat, the booking form, and the Pasaporte sign-up.
- Visible focus indicators on links, buttons, and form controls.
- Colour contrast tested against WCAG AA thresholds for body text and interactive controls.
- Text resizing supported up to 200% without loss of content or function.
- Reduced-motion support: decorative animations are softened or disabled when your device requests reduced motion.
- Captions and descriptive transcripts for any spoken-word video we publish ourselves.
- Forms with clear labels, required-field indication, and inline error messages.
3. Where we know we fall short
We are honest about the gaps we are still working on. As of the date above, known
limitations include:
- The Google Maps embed on our Reserve and Contact pages is a third-party component that we do not control. Its accessibility is governed by Google.
- Some decorative photography does not yet have descriptive captions where context would help.
- The PDF version of our menu has not been fully tagged for screen readers. The HTML menu page is the accessible source of truth.
- Background video on the home page autoplays muted and is hidden from assistive technology, but cannot yet be paused without using device settings.
We are working on these and will update this statement as fixes ship.
4. In the restaurant
- Step-free entry at our Granville Street entrance.
- Accessible washroom on the main floor.
- Service animals welcome.
- Large-print and high-contrast menus available on request from any server.
- Quieter seating away from the bar and speakers available on request when you book.
- Allergen-aware kitchen. Tell your server before ordering and we will do our best to accommodate you. Please see the allergen note in our Terms.
Calling or messaging ahead lets us prepare for your visit. We will gladly hold a
suitable table, brief your server, or arrange anything else that would make your
evening easier.
5. Help us improve
If you run into a barrier on our website or in our restaurant, please tell us. Email
manager@tequilacocina.ca with "Accessibility"
in the subject line, or call (604) 558-3443 and ask
for the manager. We aim to respond within two business days.
Please include the page or location, what you were trying to do, what assistive
technology you were using (if any), and what happened. The more detail, the faster we
can fix it.
6. Formal complaints
If you do not feel your concern has been addressed, you may contact
BC's Human Rights Tribunal
or, for federal-level matters, the
Canadian Human Rights Commission.
Template notice: This statement is a working draft intended to be
reviewed by qualified counsel and verified against the actual state of the website
and premises before being relied upon as a formal accessibility statement.
